Mentari Sanur Hotel

We booked this hotel at the last minute and having come striaght from ‘heaven on earth’ in Ubud and before that a 5* resort in Nusa Dua, we weren’t sure we wanted to stay! However it did grow on us and in the end enjoyed our stay. The highlight was the lovely swimming pool surrounded by tropical plants – the disappointment was the number of sunbeds available (7 for a hotel of more than 30 rooms!! – however the hotel did say that they have ordered more sunbeds to arrive in September), and the food in the restaurant, which wasn’t great. The room we had overlooking the pool was clean but a bit tired and tatty – but for the price good value The location wasn’t the best – to get to the main street with all the restaurants you have a get a taxi or take a long walk along the beach front walk – although taxis are very cheap. Overall the hotel is small and good value for money but I’m glad we weren’t there for 2 weeks!

*Stunning grounds with lovely flowers and interesting buildings- really the most beautiful setting that I have ever stayed in
*Tasty breakfast included
*A ten to fifteen minute walk beside the sea to the best restaurants/ link to the town
*Gorgeous pool area (with more sunbeds due to arrive as of this month we were told)
*The hotel is down a bit of a grotty lane but it does not feel at all unsafe
*A real gem, do not be put off by the slightly out of town location

Hotel is peaceful and beautiful, people are very sweet and helpful. Our room was cleaned every day. The restaurant is not the best but the food was alright. Surrounding restaurants were much better. Breakfast at the hotel wasn’t really my preference. They are very helpful with booking tours, massages, spa, travel. The pool is nice too. But a lot of people and not many pool chairs so if you like spending the day by the pool, you gotta be early! Over all very nice hotel thou, I would stay there again.

“Ignore any bad reviews, this place is fantastic” September 6, 2010

I spent a long time researching where to stay for our 11 nights in Bali and thought that depsite reading some non-complimentary reviews this hotel looked good value for money after all I thought a room is only somewhere to sleep while on holiday with so much to see. I had tried to get into higher rated hotels on trip advisor but they weren’t able to put us up for the whole holiday so went for the Mentari Sanur.
The hotel was beautiful, lovely gardens and a nice swimming pool. Our room had the biggest bed I have ever seen – I am 6’2 and when laying sideways I couldn’t touch the ends of the bed with my arms outstretched !!
Breakfast was an option of Nasi Goreng (fried rice with vegetables and a fried egg) , Bakmi Goreng (the noodle equivalent) – both of which soon start to feel a normal breakfast for the day, or more western food such as toast, french toast, ommellette, fresh fruit, juice, croissant etc. All in all a very decent start to the day.
I was a bit daunted by the reviews of the hotel being down a ‘scary’ lane, but this was in fact not an issue at all, the people in Bali are unbelievably friendly and I’ve never felt more safe on holiday than there. The lane just means you are slightly quieter away from the streets. I saw some of the higher rated hotels and was glad the hotel was not driectly onto a main road like some of these hotels.
The location is excellent with it being just a couple of minutes walk to the start of the Sanur Beach front promenade which has some incredible restaurants.
I would only suggest not to use the hotel’s driver to pick you up as like most hotels they charge 20 dollars to get picked up where there are literally hundreds of taxis outside the airport which would take you to the Mentari for around 5 dollars ater a quick bit of the standard bartering which all of Bali seems to participate in…
All in all I really couldn’t find any fault in this hotel and would definitely stay there next time I hopefully return to Bali…

Staff was wonderful. Upon my request they arranged a bottle of champagne and a birthday cake for my wife (with her name and age on the cake!) on very short notice.

Furniture in the rooms is a bit worn, but nothing too bad. Everything works and is clean. The alley is a bit smelly sometimes but just keep walking! Overall, this hotel is great value for money.

“A great hotel in Sanur for the money” September 1, 2010

This hotel had a lovely pool and restaurant which served good food and breakfast. Yes, it is down a back street, but don’t let this put you off. The hotel grounds are lovely, it is only 10 mins walk to the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They told us the best place to change money and my husband and I paid to go on a daytrip to see the volcano, the barong dance and Ubud. This was worth the money (about £25 each) as we were the only two on the trip, taken round in a private car. It was also my husband’s birthday whilst there and the hotel presented him with a birthday cake as a surprise. The rooms are large and clean. My only compaint was that they did not have black out curtains and so we were woken by the sunlight quite early, but not such a bad thing! Also the shower curtain had seen better days but overall I would stay here again. No internet here but this didn’t bother us.
